Lawrence Schiffman is Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studiesin New York University. He is an authority on the Dead Sea Scrolls and their relation to talmudic literature, a subject on which hehas authored four books, as well as a book on the Jewish Christian schism (Who Was a Jew? , Ktav, 1985)
