In this text for a one-semester course for sophomores through beginning graduate students, Hill (Michigan State University) presents all branches of modern animal physiology, with a strong emphasis on integration among physiological disciplines, ecology, and evolutionary biology. While mammals are treated in depth, there is also material on other vertebrate groups, arthropods, and molluscs. Each chapter begins with a brief animal example to engage student interest, and features summaries and study questions, plus numerous color explanatory diagrams, illustrations, and photos. To make the text accessible to a wide audience, an extensive glossary and appendices on basic mathematical, chemical, and physical concepts are included.
